Gaurav Basnet appointed head coach of Nepal's futsal team

Gaurav Basnet has been appointed as the head coach of Nepal's National Futsal team for six-month term.

All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) General Secretary Indraman Tuladhar handed over the appointment letter to Basnet on Tuesday.

Basnet was recommended by ANFA's Futsal Committee for the post.

Basnet has previously worked as the assistant coach of the national futsal team. He has also completed AFC/ANFA 'A' License Course.

"I am happy to be given this responsibility and my primary objective will be to improve the standard of Nepali futsal," said Basnet following his appointment.

Basnet will take charge of the team in the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifier in October.

U-13 national selection begins

The final round of selection of U-13 players started from Monday.

A total of 166 players--28 from Province 1, 24 from Province 2, 33 from Bagmati Province, 31 from Gandaki, 30 from Lumbini, eight from Karnali and 12 from Sudurpaschim Province--are taking part in the national selection.

The first round of selection was held in districts in Magh while the second round of selection was held in the month of Falgun.

A total of 42 players will be selected from the final selection. Fourteen players each will be enrolled in the academy set up by departmental teams--Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force.

The selection will last until Thursday.

32 players called up for national team training

National men's football team head coach Abdullah Almutairi has called 32 players for training in the national camp.

The national team training begins from May 17.

Church Boys win 'C' Division League; Birgunj United and Samajik Yuwa also promoted

Church Boys United have been crowned the champions of Martyr's Memorial 'C' Division League after finishing on the top after the completion of Super Six round.

Birgunj United Club and Samajik Yuwa Club, who finished on second and third position, were also promoted to the 'B' Division.

Church Boys defeated Jhapa Football Club 2-1 to finish at the top. Rejan Majhi scored for Church Boys in the 20th minute to give them the lead. Seven minutes later, Som Thapa doubled their lead. Jhapa pulled one back in the added minutes of first half through Shyamu Muramu but were unable to add any further.

Only a win in today's match would have taken Jhapa into the 'B' Division.

Samajik Yuwa Club defeated Birgunj Youth Academy, who needed just a point, 1-0 to finish in third position with solitary goal from Prabin Kumar Khawas in the 16th minute.

Birgunj United defeated Pinnacle Khalibari Youth Football Club 3-1 in the first match of the day. Substitute Sandip Chaudhary opened Birgunj United's first in the 61st minute. Bibek Chaudhary added a second in the 69th and after Iman lama made it 2-1 for Khalibari in the 83rd, Chatrudhan Chaudhary ensured the 3-1 victory in the 87th.

Champions Church Boys won Rs 1 million while runner-up Birgunj United took Rs 700,000. Third-placed Samajik Yuwa won Rs 400,000.

Birgunj's Dil Mani Chaudhary won Best Goalkeeper award while Sanam Rai from Church Boys was Best Defender. Church Boys Saiman Limbu was Best Midfielder and Bibek Chaudhary of Birgunj United won Best Forward award. Sandip Khadka of Samajik Yuwa was Best Coach. All the players and officials won Rs 25,000 for the individual award.

Jhapa won Rs 50,000 after winning the Fair Play Team award.
