ANFA, Gangalal Hospital sign MOU for PCMA test of footballers

All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the Pre-Competition Medical Assessment treatment of footballers.

ANFA President Karma Tsering Sherpa and Gangalal Hospital's Executive Director Chandra Mani Adhikari signed and exchanged the MOU during a programme at Gangalal Hospital today.

As per MOU, Gangalal Hospital will conduct the test of players to assess the condition of players' heart. ANFA will help and coordinate with Gangalal Hospital for the study and research in sports cardiology.

The agreement covers players of all age group of men's and women's national team and players from ANFA Academy.

Speaking at the programme, Gangalal Hospital's Executive Director Chandra Mani Adhikari said such agreement was first of its kind in the country. "No one has done any research on the state of players' heart in the country. We hope we can use our expertise and experience and improve the health state of players' in the country," said Adhikari.

ANFA President Sherpa said for a player staying fit is one of the most important aspects in football. "For a player to remain fit, his heart should be in prime condition. We hope this coordination with Gangalal Hospital will improve the player's health condition," said Sherpa.

Following the agreement, 20 players underwent the test today itself. Deep Karki, Ajit Bhandari, Devendra Tamang, Erik Bista, Nawayug Shrestha, Sujal Shrestha, Bishal Rai, Suraj BK, Ashish Lama, Tridev Gurung, Tshring Gurung, Darshan Gurung, Ishan Khadka, Sanjok Rai, Ravi Shankar Paswan, Palsang Lama and Ranjeet Dhimal underwent the test at the hospital on Tuesday.

ANFA Vice President Upendra Man Singh, General Secretary Indraman Tuladhar and other executive committee members and officials and doctors from Gangalal Hospital were also present in the programme.

ANFA commemorates death of former footballer Shahi

All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) held a ceremony to mourn the death of former footballer and General Secretary Lok Bahadur Shahi.

Shahi had passed away on January 11 at his ancestral home in Choratta, Dailekh, aged 65.

ANFA President Karma Tsering Sherpa, Shahi's wife and children, vice presidents Upendra Man Singh and Bir Bahadur Khadka, General Secretary Indraman Tuladhar, Treasurer Rabindra Joshi, among other executive committee members and officials were present in the ceremony.

The ceremony was organized on the 45th day of Shahi's death.

Shahi's daughter Karuna Shahi thanked ANFA for holding such programme to commemorate her father's death. "I had thought he would be a forgotten man in Nepali football. But ANFA has recognized his contribution towards Nepali football," said Shahi.

ANFA President Karma Tsering Sherpa said Shahi's death was a colossal loss to Nepali football fraternity. "Football lost an important person. His legacy will be remembered forever," he said. Sherpa said ANFA will support in the study of Shahi's children and hoped his family members would have the strength to overcome such grief.

Shahi played as a goalkeeper of the national football team from 1982-1989. He was also a member of the team when Nepal won gold for football in 1984 South Asian Games.

Shahi also served as ANFA's general secretary from 1995 to 2002.

Third phase of ANFA 'B' Licence Course begins

The third phase of ANFA 'B' Licence Course has started from Tuesday.

The course is being conducted at ANFA Complex in Satdobato. This is the first time the course is being conducted physically. The previously two phases were conducted via virtual medium.

ANFA Technical Director Gary Phillips is conducting the course. The course will conclude on Sunday.

Four technical departments--Women's, Youth, Grassroot and Coach Education--assisted Technical Director Gary Philipps during the course.

Nepal Super League to be held from April 24

Nepal's first every franchise football league 'Nepal Super League' is all set to be organized from April 24 in Dasharath Stadium.

The league is being organized by Nepal Sports and Event Management with technical support from All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).

A press conference was held on Monday in this regard.

Participating teams will be cities-based franchises representing various provinces. The names and owners of the teams will be made public soon.

Each team will have 20 players, including foreign players. The players will be categorized by ANFA and will be selected through auction. A total of 19 games will be played in the tournament in single round-robin format.
