National team squad reduced to 36

Head coach of men's national football team Abdullah Almutairi has reduced his national team squad to 36.

The national team has been training in closed camp to prepare for the SAFF Championship and AFC Asian Cup China Qualifier Final Round.

Goalkeeper Bishal Sunar, Amit Tamang, Bibek Basnet, Darshan Gurung, Dona Thapa, Gaurav Budathoki, Mikchen Tamang, Niraj Basnet, Nishan Khadka, Prizen Tamang, Ravi Paswan, Sesehang Angdembe, Shisir Lekhi and Sudil Rai have been left out.

Midfielder Bikram Lama has also been training with the national team to aid his recovery process. If fully fit, he may be considered for the national team.

Players, officials receive award money for victorious Three Nation campaign

Players and officials who helped the national team win the Three Nations Cup 2021 have received award money from the government on Sunday.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli handed out the prize amid a special programme at PM's Office in Baluwatar today.

PM Oli lauded the national team for winning the trophy and wished them best for the upcoming SAFF Championship.

The government had announced cash prize of Rs 400,000 to each players and officials for winning the cup. It was Nepal's first trophy on home soil in 37 years.

Sanjog Rai and Bishal Rai scored for the hosts to edge Bangladesh 2-1 in the final at Dasharath Stadium.

Nepal with Iran, Lebanon and Tajikistan in AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022 Qualifiers

Nepal have been drawn alongside Iran, Lebanon and Tajikistan in Group B for the the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022 Qualifiers.

The 42 teams were drawn into 11 groups with 15 spots available at the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022 with Uzbekistan having already confirmed their place as hosts, the first time the tournament will be staged in the Central Zone.

The draw divided the teams into two Regions – the West Region comprising 23 West, South and Central Participating Teams as well as the East Region, which consists of 19 East and ASEAN Participating Teams.

The West Region comprises six groups in total – five groups of four teams and one group of three teams – while the East Region features four groups of four teams and one group of three teams, with the 11 group winners and four best second-placed teams sealing their qualification to the Finals.

The Qualifiers are scheduled for October 23 to 31, 2021.
