Nepal fall to Malaysia in AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers

Nepal began their AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Malaysia on Tuesday at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Johor.

Malaysia dominated possession and applied early pressure, forcing Nepal onto the back foot for most of the match. Hector Hevel broke the deadlock in the 30th minute with a deflected shot that came off a Nepali defender and into the net.

Corbin Ong then sealed the victory in the 71st minute, finishing off a well-worked free-kick routine, although replays suggested he may have been in an offside position.

Nepal handed Rejin Subba his national team debut in the 85th minute, replacing Gillespye Jung Karki.

Karki had scored when Nepal defeated Singapore in an internatioal friendly on March 21 in Singapore.

Nepal Secure first-ever victory over Singapore

Nepal made history with a 1-0 win over Singapore in an international friendly at the National Stadium of Singapore on Friday, securing their first-ever victory against the hosts.

Gillespye Jung Karki netted the decisive goal in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a well-placed cross from Manish Dangi. It was Karki’s third goal for the national team and a crucial confidence boost ahead of Nepal’s AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers match against Malaysia on March 25.

Singapore had several opportunities to equalize, but Nepali goalkeeper Kiran Kumar Limbu produced a series of vital saves to preserve the clean sheet and ensure Nepal’s historic triumph.

The victory also marked a perfect start for Nepal’s new head coach, Matt Ross, who was leading the team for the first time.

Defender Suman Shrestha and forward Subash Bam Thakuri made their debuts in the senior side. Shrestha was named in the starting lineup by coach Ross while Thakuri replaced Shrestha in the 60th minute for his debut.
