Final squad for SAFF U17 Women's Championship 2023 announced

The final squad of the U-17 national women's team for the SAFF U17 Women's Championship 2023 to be held in Bangladesh from March 20-31 has been announced.

Head coach Bhagawati Rana Magar announced her initial squad on Tuesday. Rana had led the U-15 national women's team to the historic title of SAFF U-15 Women's Championship held in Bangladesh.

South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) is staging the tournament under the UEFA Assist Programme.

An open selection was organized by ANFA from for five days on January 26, 27, 31 and February 1 and 2 at ANFA Complex to select players for the tournament.

Jawalakhel stun Machhindra, Satdobato defeat NRT

Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) pulled off a stunning 3-1 victory over defending champions Machhindra Football Club 3-1 in the Martyr's Memorial A Division League 2023 on Sunday.

In the third match of the day at the Dasharath Stadium at 5:30 pm, MFC took the lead through Devendra Tamang's well-taken free-kick before Hishub Thapaliya levelled for JYC in the second half. An error by MFC's goalkeeper Bishal Shrestha gave JYC the lead four minutes later. Shrestha mistimed his shot shooting directly to Nokoto Synous Masoabi who taped the ball into the net. Simanta Thapa scored the team's third in the 71st minute to complete the upset.

In the first match played at Dasharath Stadium, Tribhuvan Army Football Club played a goalless draw against Sankata Club. The two sides shared points after failing convert any of their chances in the game.

Dipak Raj Singh Thakuri scored a brace as Satdobato Youth Club (SYC) defeated New Road Team (NRT) 2-1 at Chyasal Stadium in the first match of the day.

It was an evenly matched competition between the two sides where Thakuri gave SYC the lead in the  45th minute. Nicolas Serge Song levelled the score in the added time but Thakuri scored six minutes from time to secure the victory.

JYC's victory over MFC also concluded the first round of fixtures of the Martyr's Memorial A Division League 2023. The second round of matches will begin from Tuesday.

4-day ANFA Community Coaching Course concluded in Tanahun

Tanahun District Football Association successfully concluded a 4-day ANFA community coaching course in Tanahu on Sunday, starting from 2nd March 2023. The closing ceremony was held at the Janajyoti Campus today.

During the closing program, Chief Guest and Member of the Provincial Assembly of Gandaki Province, Jeet Prakash Ale, advised the trained players to apply the skills and exercises learned during the training course in their daily lives. He also encouraged players not to be discouraged since there are growing opportunities in the sports sector in Nepal. ANFA's former central member Ratna Kumar Shrestha, ANFA's Head of Coach Education Sanjit Singh, Ward Chairman of Ward No. 6 of Bhimad Municipality, Shyam Sundar Joshi, and the President of Nepali Congress, Bhimad Municipality, Arvin Shrestha were among those who emphasized that the trained players should become entrepreneurs in sports and work for the development of football in the region.30 Coaches from Tanahu, Gorkha, Syangja, and Nawalpur participated in the training program, which was conducted by Head of Coach Education Sanjit Singh and Coach Chet Narayan Shrestha.In this same event, national athletes Lachhhu Thapa and Ram Thapa, along with Women's National Player Bimala BK  were honored with certificates of appreciation and a cash prize of 5 thousand by ANFA Tanahun's President Satya Bhakta Palikhe. He also informed that ANFA Tanahun will be organizing more excellent activities in the upcoming days to enhance the players' skills.

Manang, Sherpa share spoils

Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) played a 1-1 draw against Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) in the Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2023 on Saturday.

MMC's Roshan Rana Magar's 15th minute strike was cancelled out by HSC's Suresh Kumal five minutes from time.

MMC's head coach Kiran Shrestha said he was happy with the overall result of the match but saw plenty of areas to improve. "We started good and were under no pressure in the first half. We were dominant in majority of the game and satisfied with the overall result," said Kiran.

HSC's Suman Shrestha said they would have loved to win the match against MMC. "We wanted to win and played attacking game mostly in the second half.  We have to be happy with a point because our foreign players lack match fitness and have taken part in just one single training session," coach Suman said.

New Road Team will play against Satdobato Youth Club in the first match at Chyasal Stadium at 2:30 pm. Tribhuvan Army Football Club face Sankata at Dasharath Stadium at the same time while the final match of first round will be played between Machhindra Football Club and Jawalakhel Youth Club at 5:30 pm at Dasharath Stadium.
