Church Boys, APF register wins

Church Boys United came from behind to defeat Nepal Police Club 2-1 and APF Football Club defeated Three Star Club 2-0 in the Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2023 matches on Saturday.

In the match played at Chyasal Stadium, Ravi Paswan gave Nepal Police the lead in the 14th minute. Ashish Chaudhary levelled for Church Boys in the added minute of the first half before Franklin Kuete Talla won it for Church Boys in the 70th minute.

In the other match at Dasharath Stadium, APF stunned Three Star with a 2-0 scoreline. Mani Lama scored from a free-kick in the 72nd minute. Three Star's goalie Arun Blon failed to hold on to the Lama's shot before it crossed the line.

Armand Beadoum scored the other goal for APF in the 87th minute.

APF's coach Ratna Kaji Maharjan said they wanted to start the league with win and succeeded in doing so. "We wanted to start with a win and improve from last year's performance. Everyone in the team has worked hard for it and today's win is the result of that hard work," said Maharjan.

Three Star's coach Megh Raj KC said an inexperienced line up cost them today's match. "We have put our faith in young players. They played really well but playing well doesn't always win you matches. They lacked experience," said KC.

Manang Marsyangdi Club will play Himalayan Sherpa Club in the third and final match of the day at Dasharath Stadium at 5:30 pm.

Newcomers Khumaltar begin top-tier campaign with win over Friends

Promoted FC Khumaltar defeated Friends Club 1-0 to begin their maiden Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2079 with a win.

Messouke Oloumou struck just a minute full time to give Khumaltar the win at Dasharath Stadium.

Khumaltar were better of the two sides particularly with Oloumou and Stephane Binong leading the attack for Khumaltar.

Khumaltar's assistant coach Madan Subba said they were happy for the points and improve in coming days. "We played well but lacked coordination in first half. We were better in the second half," said Subba. Subba said it was their first ever game in the top-tier league and not everything would be as smooth as they expected. "It is our first ever top flight game. We will do better in the first half," said Subba.

Friends Club's head coach Urjan Shrestha praised Khumaltar's Oloumou and Binong's performance in today's match. "They were troublesome for us throughout the game. We couldn't maintain ball possession in today's game," Shrestha said. Shrestha said their team believed there was handball in the buildup to Oloumou's goal. "We thought it was a handball. Our players too complained about it but it was not given," he said.
