Nepal conclude SAFF Championship with consolation win

Nepal concluded the Bangabandhu SAFF Championship 2023 with a consolation win over Pakistan on Tuesday.

Substitute Ashish Chaudhary scored the only goal of the game with 10 mins of regular time remaining. Chaudhary after receiving the ball from Laken Limbu volleyed the ball into the net.

Nepal rued multiple goalscoring chances in their final group match. The best of the opportunity to take the lead in the first half fell to Bimal Gharti Magar in the 11th minute when Magar, in a one-vs-one situation with the goalkeeper took his time to shot and instead was tacked by the Pakistan's defender.

Magar missed again in the 42nd minute when he was fed by Manish Dangi from the left only for him to shot straight at the keeper. Substitute Nawayug Shrestha headed wide when he was unmarked five minutes after the restart.

Shrestha then turned supplier in the 61st minute he passed the ball to Manish Dangi only for the latter's shot to be saved by the Pakistan goalkeeper's legs. Devendra Tamang's free-kick in the 68th minute also came off the bar.

Chaudhary then scored in the 79th minute to give Nepal the lead. He could have added another in the added minutes of the game but his shot in an empty goal was wide.

Nepal and Pakistan both are already out of the semi-final race having lost both their opening matches.
