Nepal win friendly series against Bangladesh on penalties

Nepal won the friendly women's football series against Bangladesh after a 4-2 victory on penalties on Sunday.

Substitute goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar saved two penalties as Nepal claimed the FIFA International Women's Football Series 2023 trophy.

After a goalless 90 minutes, Nepal's Sabitra Bhandari and Hira Kumari Bhujel scored the first two goals for Nepal. While Shamsunnahar scored, Magar saved the penalty from Shuli Azim.

Magar stepped up to take up the third penalty but hit the crossbar.  Maria Manda's shot was also saved by Magar. Dipa Shahi and Monika Chakma scored each for Nepal and Bangladesh before Anita KC sealed the victory.

The victorious team will now return to Nepal on Monday.

ANFA to conduct trails for U-16 players

All Nepal Football Association will conduct trails in districts for the selection of players for the SAFF U-16 Championship.

A letter has been circulated to member districts in this regard on Friday.

The selection in districts will be held from July 17 to 20. The players selected from the district will undergo another round of selection, this time in province from July 22 to 30. The final round of selection will be held in Kathmandu from August 1 to 5.

Players born on and after 1st January, 2008 (Poush 17, 2064 BS)can take part in the selection.

The SAFF U-16 Championship will be held in Bhutan from September 1-11.

Nepal play 1-1 draw with Bangladesh in first friendly

Nepal and Bangladesh played a 1-1 draw in the first friendly match on Thursday.

In the match at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Shipahi Mustofa Kamal Stadium, Bangladesh took the lead before Sabitra Bhandari scored to level the match.

Sabina Khatun gave Bangladesh the lead in the 65th minute. Bhandari scored in the added minutes of the game to ear the draw for Nepal.

Nepal and Bangladesh are playing two friendlies, the second will be played in July 16. The last time the two sides faced each other was in the final of SAFF Women's Championship in Kathmandu where Nepal lost 3-1 to Bangladesh.

ANFA U-16 Youth League set to begin today

The ANFA U-16 Youth League is all set to begin from Friday. The tournament begins with Manang Marsyangdi Club taking against Nepal Police Club in the first match at ANFA Complex at 3 pm.

Ten teams are taking part in the league which will continue for the next six months. Manang Marsyangdi Club, FC Khumaltar, Sankata Club, Tribhuvan Army FC, Friends Club, Church Boys United, New Road Team, APF Football Academy, Machhindra FC and Nepal Police Club will take part in the youth competition.

Matches will be played on Saturdays and public holidays. Matches will be played at ANFA Complex, Chyasal Stadium and Nepal Army's ground in Sallaghari.
