Machhindra begin title defense with 2-1 win over NRT

Defending champions Machhindra Football Club began their title defense with a 2-1 win over New Road Team (NRT). Sunil Bal scored both the goals for Machhindra in the win. Bal gave the lead in the 12th minute from Bishal Rai's cross. After the first half lead, NRT levelled through Erik Bista's free-kick in the 54th minute. Bal gave Machhindra the lead in the 80th minute from Sujal Shrestha's cross and claim all three points for the team. Machhindra's coach Prabesh Katuwal said he was happy for the win but his team should have scored more goals. "We wasted many opportunities and should have scored more. We are unhappy with some of the referee decisions but happy with the win," said Katuwal. NRT's coach Raju Kaji Shakya said he was happy with his team's performance despite the win. "It is our first match and it takes time to get the team set. We conceded after a poor mistake and that led to our defeat," said Shakya. Departmental derby ends in 1-1 stalemate

Tribhuvan Army Football Club (TAFC) shared points with Nepal Police Club (NPC) after the two departmental sides played a 1-1 draw in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Monday.

Title contenders TAFC were sloppy most of the time and pegged back when Nepal Police Club's Santosh Hemram scored from Tej Tamang's free-kick in the 51st minute. After going a goal down, TAFC's assistant Raju Tamang sent in Sudil Rai and Bibek Basnet and it worked out for the team.

Basnet levelled in the 61st minute with his perfect left-footed shot finding the top corner. Another TAFC's substitute Tek Bahadur Budathoki capitalized on a rushing opposition goalkeeper Satrughan Chaudhary's mitake to find the net but his goal was ruled offiside.

TAFC's assistant coach Tamang said it was an overall a good game but they lacked coordination in defensive and attacking front. "We missed scoring opportunities and the goal was also ruled offside. We hope to improve in our next matches as it is our first match of the league," said Tamang.

NPC's head coach Ananta Thapa said they were happy to steal a point from the runner-up of the last league. "We had scored first but conceded due to our own mistake. But we are happy with a point. It helps to boost team morale," said Thapa.

Defending champions Machhindra Club will play against New Road Team (NRT) in the other match of the day today.

Manang Marsyangdi edge Jawalakhel 1-0

Dinesh Rajbanshi's solitary goal helped Manang Marsyangdi Club edge Jawalakhel Youth Club 1-0 in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Sunday.

Rajbanshi headed in the goal in the 57th minute as Manang began their campaign with a scrappy win at Dasharath Stadium. Manang's Afeez Olawale thought he had given the lead in the 31st minute but he was deemed offside.

There were relatively few clear-cut scoring chances created by both the teams in the first half. Manang's coach Rajendra Shrestha said he was confident of securing the win from the game but had to work hard for it.

"There was not much pressure to me as a coach as we have quality players in our team. It was not a comfortable win for us where we created a lot of chances but could not utilize," said Shrestha.

Jawalakhel's coach Kishor Kumar KC said both teams were level on tactics and created good scoring opportunities. "We conceded the goal and every moves I made to rectify that mistake didn't work. We had more chances than them but could not score," said KC.

Tribhuvan Army Football Club will play Nepal Police Club in the first match at 1 pm on Monday while defending champions Machhindra Club take on New Road Team in the second match at 4:45 pm.
