Dhangadhi lift Deputy Mayor Cup title with comeback win over Lalitpur

Dhangadhi Sub Metropolitan City came from behind and claimed a thrilling 3-1 win in penalties over Lalitpur Metropolitan City to lift the Deputy Mayor Cup National Women's League Qualifiers title.

Rekha Poudel scored the decisive penalty to win the title for Dhangadhi in the shootout.

In the final match played at ANFA Complex in Satdobato, Manisha Sen and captain Nirmala BK gave Lalitpur a 2-0 lead inside 16 minutes. Seema Rawal halved the goal difference in the 24th for Dhangadhi only for Rajani Thokar to restore the two-gal cushion in the 39th.

Chandra Bhandari then scored two goals in 15 minutes to bring the score level on 3-3 for Dhangadhi. Rekha could have won the match inside the regular 90 minutes but her late penalty kick was saved by Lalitpur's custodian Ankita Rai.

Dhangadhi also won four individual awards with Usha Nath claiming Best Goalkeeper, Saraswoti Rokaya Best Midfielder, Chandra Bhandari Best Forward and Raghawandar Karki as Best Coach. Lalitpur's Srijana Singh won the Best Defender award. The individual winners claimed Rs 20,000 each.

Kankai Municipality Jhapa's Dipa Shahi became the Best Player of the tournament and won Rs 50,000. Janaki Rural Municipality Kailali won the Fair Play Award and won Rs 50,000.

Kathmandu Metropolitan's Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi and Dhangadhi Sub Metropolitan City Chief Nrip Bahadur Oad handed out the trophies and medals to the winners and the runner-up team.

Both the teams have also qualified for the National Women's League after securing their berths in the final.

Ticket price fixed, matches to be played on weekends

The ticket price for the upcoming Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League has been fixed at Rs 100 for the normal parapet and Rs 500 for the VIP parapet.

The league begins from November 19 with Friends Club taking on Satdobato Youth Club in the opening match at Dasharath Stadium. The match will begin under the lights at 5 pm.

In a press meet at Dasharath Stadium on Friday, ANFA General Secretary Indraman Tuladhar and League Committee Director Sanjeeb Mishra briefed the media about the preparations for the league.

General Secretary Tuladhar said the league was pushed back from its previous scheduled date to develop weekend football culture in the country. "Matches will also be played under the lights to boost crowd's presence in the game," he said. Tuladhar said beside Dasharath Stadium matches will also be played at ANFA Complex in Satdobato and Chyasal Football Ground and the tickets rates will remain the same in every venues.

League committee Mishra said matches can also be played in Pokhara but pointed on various factors that needs to be settled first to play the game there. "There are number of factors that need to be sorted out first. We are still in discussion regarding holding games in Pokhara," he said.

The best goalkeeper will be awarded with Golden Gloves and a cash prize of Rs 200,000 while the highest scorer will receive Golden Ball and cash prize of Rs 200,000. Also the Most Valuable Player will receive Rs 300,000 and the Rising Player will win Rs 150,000.

A total of 91 games will be played in single round format. The winner of the league will receive Rs 7.5 million and the runner-up will receive Rs 5 million. The third placed team will win Rs 2.5 million while two teams will be relegated to the second division.

ANFA has signed broadcasting agreement with Kantipur Television for the league.

Dhangadhi and Lalitpur qualify for National Women's League

Dhangadi Sub Metropolitan City and Lalitpur Metropolitan City have qualified for the National Women's League after reaching the final of Deputy Mayor Cup National Women's League Qualifiers on Friday.

Lalitpur Metropolitan City defeated Kankai Municipality Jhapa 1-0 in the first semi-final at ANFA Complex while Dhangadi edged Gauriganga Municipality Kailali 4-0 in the second semi-final.

Niramala BK scored the only goal in Lalitpur's win. The closest Kankai came to scoring was when Dipa Shahi struck the bar in the first half.

Seema Rawal gave Dhangadhi the lead in the first half which was doubled by Chandra Bhandari in the first minute of the second. Revika Pandey and Saraswoti Rokaya also scored for Dhangadhi in the win.

The final match of the competition will be played on Sunday at ANFA Complex at 1 pm.

A Division League postponed until November 19

The Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2078 has been postponed until November 19.

The league was scheduled to begin from Monday, November 15.

Matches will also be played only on weekends. The opening match will be played between Satdobato Youth Club and Friends Club at 5 pm in Dasharath Stadium.
