Nepal crash out after India defeat

Nepal failed to reach the final of the SAFF U-19 Women's Championship after losing 1-0 against India in their final group match on Sunday.

Nepal's defeat, coupled with Sri Lanka's defeat against Bangladesh, denied them the spot in the final with the top two teams―Bangladesh and India―securing their place. Bangladesh hit a dozen past Sri Lanka and made it to the final as group winners while India finished second.

Priyanka Devi scored the only goal in the 67th minute for India. India needed a win against Nepal to book their place in the final.

Nepal had drawn Bangladesh and defeated Sri Lanka 6-0 and Bhutan 4-0 in its previous matches.

Manang move to top after comfortable 3-1 win over Police in Pokhara 

Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) opened a two point lead over second placed Machhindra Football Club (MFC) after a comfortable 3-1 win over Nepal Police Club (NPC) in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 in Pokhara on Saturday.

Anjan Bista scored twice and Nishan Limbu scored the other goal for MMC in the top-tier league match being played outside of capital Kathmandu for the first time. Suman Lama scored the goal for NPC.

NPC goalie Roshan Khadka was on fault when Anjan gave lead to MMC in the 10th minute. Khadka rushed out to clear the ball but failed giving Anjan the simple chance to tap the ball into the net.

Suman levelled the game in the 36th minute through a penalty after Nir Kumar Rai was brought own inside the box. Suman's penalty was also the first penalty goal in the league.

Anjan then gave MMC the lead through a free-kick in the 73rd minute and Nishan took advantage of another mistake by NPC's goalkeeper for MMC's third in the 83rd minute.

NPC are ninth in the table after five points from five matches.

Three Star lose ground on league leaders after another draw

Three Star Club (TSC) played a goalless draw against New Road Team (NRT) in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Saturday.

Both the teams had few chances to their name but could not break the deadlock in the game.

TSC coach Rabindra Silakar said the team played better than their earlier game but had to walk away with a single point. "We are getting back to the rhythm but it is difficult to score when the opposition is so organized defensively. Once our new players adapt to the team, we hope to get back to winning ways," said Silakar.

NRT's Raju Kaji Shakya said their playing was unbalanced in the first half but improved in the second. "I am happy to earn a single point against a team such as Three Star. We missed Erik Bista in today's match and our game looked very unbalanced in the first half and only improved in the second half," said Shakya.

Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) will play Brigade Boys Club (BBC) in the only match on Sunday. The match will be played in Dasharath Stadium at 4:45 pm.

Jawalakhel out of bottom zone after first win

Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) registered their first win of the league with a 1-0 win over Chyasal Youth Club (CYC) and climbed out of bottom two in the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League 2021/22 on Saturday.

Nicholas Fernandes solitary strike in the 37th minute helped JYC jump to 10th in the table. Fernandes goal was also JYC's first goal in the league. CYC meanwhile dropped to 11th, a place below JYC.

JYC's Kishor Kumar KC said they were happy to finally register their first win of the league. "This win should boost the confidence of our players. We still target to finish fourth in the table. Let's see there are many games still to play," said KC.

CYC's Bal Gopal Sahukhala said it was an important match for the team but conceded due to a simple mistake. "We had created chances but could not score. Injury to players have also not helped our cause," said Sahukhala.

Three Star Club (TSC) will play New Road Team (NRT) in the other match of the day at Dasharath Stadium at 4:45 pm.
