Machhindra go second with win, Jawalakhel held

Machhindra Football Club moved to the second in the standings after a 2-0 victory over New Road Team at Chyasal Stadium on Sunday.

Afeez Olawale Oladipo and Saurav Limbu scored for Machhindra in the win.

In other game at Dasharath Stadium, Manang Marsyangdi Club and APF Football Club played out a 2-2 draw. Manang, still looking for their first win under new coach Bishnu Gurung, twice took the lead only for APF to make a comeback in the game. It was Manang's sixth consecutive draw in the ongoing league.

Koffi Timothee Koudo scored from the penalty spot, awarded after APF's Bishwas Udas foul on Sumit Shrestha, to give Manang the lead in the 13th minute. Nabin Lama levelled for APF seven minutes later. Shrestha restored Manang's lead in the 26th but Armand Beadoum levelled again in the 64th minute to steal the point for APF.

In the third match of the day, Jawalakhel Youth Club came from 2-0 down to play an entertaining 2-2 draw with Sankata Club at Dasharath Stadium. Ayush Ghalan gave Sankata the lead in the 43rd minute before it was doubled by Chandan Kumar Das in the 73rd minute. Nkoto Synous Masoabi pulled one back in the 77th before substitute Samiraj Thokar levelled the game and ensured Jawalakhel walk away from the game with at least a point four minutes from time.

The draw, coupled by Machhindra's win, means Jawalakhel slipped from second to third in the points table. Second-placed Machhindra have 34 points, a single point lead over Jawalakhel. Manang are eighth with 24 points followed by APF in the ninth with 23 points. Sankata also have 23 points but are 11th.

AFC/ANFA C Coaching Certificate Course begins in Biratnagar

The first phase of the AFC/ANFA C Coaching Certificate Course has begun in Biratnagar from Sunday.

The first phase will be held for seven days and will conclude on May 27. The second phase will be held from July 11.

Biratnagar Metropolitan City Mayor Nagesh Koirala inaugurated the event. ANFA Assistant General Secretary Basanta Raj Aryal, ANFA Ex-Co member Dipendra Dhimal, Head of Coach Education Sanjit Singh, Morang District Football Association President Sanjiv Budathoki and 24 participants are taking part in the course.

Mayor Koirala wished the participants for a successful conduction of the course while ANFA Assistant General Secretary Aryal briefed about the overall design of the course.

ANFA has for the first time prepared the module and syllabus of such a course.

The course is being organized by Morang District Football Association with support from ANFA. Biratnagar Metropolitan City, Belbari Municipality and Kanepokhari Rural Municipality have sponsored the course.

Satdobato defeat Three Star to conclude 19th round

Royal Blue Satdobato Youth Club defeated Three Star Club 2-0 in the Martyr's Memorial A Division League 2023 on Saturday.

In the day's only match at Dasharath Stadium at 6 pm, William Asiedu Opoku scored a brace for Satdobato.

Opoku gave Satdoabto the lead in the 24th minute. After a 1-0 half-tie lead, he doubled the lead two minutes after the restart. Three Star put on a much improved performance after going 2-0 down and went closest to scoring when Dipesh Gurung hit the upright. Few minutes later, Gurung was again denied by Satdobato's goalkeeper Abhishek Baral.

The result of the match, however, didn't move any teams in the points table.

Satdobato are above Three Star on fourth with 29 points, a three points lead over Three Star.

ANFA marks Grassroots Day with celebrations

All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) marked 10th AFC Grassroots Day by conducting grassroots festival week in different places.

AFNA in coordination with District Football Association, celebrated Grassroot Festival in four different places―ANFA Complex in Satdoabto, Sunsari, Dhanusha and Kaski districts. ANFA General Secretary Kiran Ran began the celebrations by handing over the ball to the instructors at ANFA Complex in Satdobato.

The festivals reached 550 children of 6 to 12 years of age with an aim of increasing participation and contribute to their overall well-being.

ANFA had conducted the festival in Sindhupalchowk District by reaching out to over 200 U-12 children on May 13 to commemorate the AFC Grassroots Football Day.

The kids, coaches and parents were also oriented on child safe guarding after the festivals. Participating children were provided with footballs and AFC Grassroots Football logo T-shits during the festival.
