Former footballer Rai no more

Former footballer and coach Gambhir Rai has passed away on Sunday. He was 56.

Jhapa District Football Association President Bhagirath Ale informed Rai was a diabetic patient and died while on treatment at B&C Hospital.

Rai, a resident of Bhadapur-10 in Jhapa district, had represented Nepal in the U-16 and U-19 level.

He had represetned NRT, Janakpur Churot Factory and Manang Marsyangdi Club in club competitons.

Former Vice President of Jhapa District Football Association, Rai had begun his coaching career after retiring from playing in 2056 BS.

U-20 squad down to 30

The national U-20 men's football team has reduced its roster to 30 players, down from the original 40.

Head coach Urjan Shrestha and his coaching staff left out 10 players from the preliminary squad.

The trimmed squad will prepare for upcoming competitions, including the SAFF U-20 Championship in Nepal and the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

Sanoj Shrestha appointed head coach of U-17 team, Prajapati assistant coach

ANFA has appointed Sanoj Shrestha as the Head Coach of national U-17 team. Shrestha will overlook the team for the SAFF U-17 Championship 2024 and AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

Similarly, Dhaneshwor Prajapati has been appointed as the Assistant Coach.

Both Shrestha and Prajapati received their appointment letters from ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai at ANFA Complex in Satdobato.

ANFA General Secretary Rai also handed over appointment letter to Goalkeeping Coach Prabin Shrestha.

APF's opponents in AFC Women’s Champions League confirmed

The draw for the inaugural season of the AFC Women’s Champions League has been conducted. The inaugural season kicks off with the preliminary stage which saw 13 teams divided into four groups. Matches will be played between August 25 and August 31.

APF Football Club has been drawn in Group C and will face Uzbekistan's FC Nasaf and Malaysia's Sabah FA in the preliminary round of the inaugural season of the AFC Women’s Champions League which will get underway in August.

APF's matches will be played in Malaysia.

The official draw was conducted on Thursday at the AFC House. Matches will be played between August 25 and August 31.

The four group winners will then advance to the Group Stage where they will be joined by eight other clubs divided into three groups.
