Nepal crush Sri Lanka 7-0 in SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship

Nepal delivered a commanding performance to defeat Sri Lanka 7-0 in their third group match of the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship 2025.

Meena Deuba led the scoring with a brilliant hat-trick, finding the net in the 8th, 42nd, and 70th minutes. Samikshya Magar added to the tally in the 13th minute with a composed finish, while Purnima Rai struck twice in quick succession during first-half stoppage time (45+3 and 45+5) to send Nepal into halftime with a 5-0 lead.

Sarita Kumari Nath sealed the rout with a late goal in the 90+2nd minute, capping off a flawless team performance that left Sri Lanka with no response.

Nepal fall short against Bangladesh in five-goal thriller

Nepal suffered a narrow 2-3 defeat to Bangladesh in a dramatic encounter at the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship 2025.

Bangladesh took an early lead through Sinha Jahan Shikha in the 14th minute, and extended their advantage with a second goal from MST Sagorika in the 37th minute, giving the visitors a 2-0 cushion heading into the break.

Nepal mounted a strong second-half comeback. Anisha Rai converted a penalty in the 78th minute to bring Nepal back into the game, and Meena Deuba found the equalizer in the 87th minute.

However, heartbreak struck in the dying moments of stoppage time when Sree Moti Trishna Rani scored for Bangladesh in the 90+7th minute, sealing the win and denying Nepal a share of the points.

Nepal will now look to bounce back in their next match against Sri Lanka.

Nepal thrash Bhutan 6-1 in SAFF U-20 Women's Championship opener

Nepal got off to a flying start in the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship 2025 with a dominant 6-1 victory over Bhutan at the Dasharath Stadium on Tuesday.

Forward Senu Pariyar opened the scoring early in the 9th minute and doubled the lead just before halftime in the 45th minute. Purnima Rai was the standout performer of the match, scoring four goals in the 18th, 63rd, 84th, and 88th minutes to complete a sensational haul and seal a resounding win for the home side.

Bhutan managed to pull one back through Kelden Wangmo in the 54th minute, but it was little more than a consolation as Nepal continued their attacking onslaught in the second half.

Nepal next face Bangladesh in their upcoming group match.

U-23 squad trimmed to 32 players

The national U-23 football squad, currently in a closed camp, has been reduced to 32 players.

Head coach Nabin Neupane has added four senior team's players and released 12 players from the initial pool of 40 shortlisted for the camp, following several rounds of selection conducted by ANFA. 

The team is preparing for the upcoming AFC U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, which will be held in Tajikistan from September 3 to 9. Nepal has been placed in Group K alongside hosts Tajikistan, Syria, and the Philippines.
