Philippines down Nepal with last gasp goals

Nepal lost 2-1 to Philippines in the AFC Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers after conceding two late goals at the Jar Stadium in Tashkent. 

Bimala Chaudhary had given the lead to Nepal in the 10th minute but Tahnai Annis and Camille Wilson struck in the space of two minutes to snatch the victory from Nepal. 

Chaudhary headed in the goal from Sabita Rana's cross to give the lead for Nepal. She, however, had to come off injured in the 39th and was replaced by Anita Basnet. 

Annis levelled in the 90th minute and Philippines ensured all three points in the 92nd minute through Wilson. 

Nepal's coach Gary Phillips said he was saddened by the loss but praised the team for good performance. Phillips said the team played well for the 85th minute but the last five minutes let them down.

Nepal will play their other match against Hong Kong on September 21.

Curtains lift off 'A' Division National Futsal League

The 'A' Division National Futsal League has begun at Multipurpose Covered Hall in Pokhara from Saturday.

Gandaki Province Ministry of Youth and Sports Rajiv Gurung inaugurated the tournament by handing over the match ball to officials.

In a glittering opening ceremony, ANFA President Karma Tshering Sherpa also wished for the successful completion of the tournament.

The Rising Cub Dharan made a winning start with a 5-4 win over Machhindra Sky Goals Kathmandu. Milan Limbu, Dorje Tamang, and Sudip Gurung scored one each and Rewosh Maskey hit a brace for the Dharan side while Sri Krishna Shrestha scored a hat-trick and Aashish Sunam scored the other for Sky Goals.

In the second match of the day, Sports Castle Pokhara romped to a 7-0 victory over Prabhatpheri Youth Club. In the one-sided match, Sumit Shrestha and Khim Raj Gurung scored a brace each and Bijay Gurung, Dipesh Ghale and Kishor Gurung hit one each.

Lumbini Futsal will play against Jharna Sports Club while Futsal 5 Dharan will face Sankhamul Futsal on Sunday. Also Dhuku Futsal Hub will play against Sabin Memorial FC Pokhara in the third match of the day.

ANFA organizes grassroots workshop and festival in Sindhuli

All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) organized a two-day grassroots workshop and festival in Boteni of Hariharpurgadhi Rural Municipality of Sindhuli district from Thursday.

Twenty participants took part in the first day of the workshop while around 150 participants took part in the second day of the festival conducted in the premises of Shree Janahit Secondary School. ANFA Vice President and Youth and Grassroots Coordinator Upendra Man Singh and Grassroots head Manoj Ranjit conducted the workshop.

The workshop was chaired by Hariharpurgadhi Rural Municipality ward 5 chairperson Jhalak Majhi. Majhi thanked ANFA for conducting such a programme in the rural municipality and expected the workshop would help in the development of grassroots in the rural municipality.

Vice President Singh also distributed grassroots materials in the workshop.

ANFA, Bagmati Province Sports Development Council sign pact for A Div League

All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and Bagmati Province Sports Development Council has signed an agreement to organize the Martyr's Memorial A Division League in joint coordination.

Following the agreement, the council will provide Rs 10 million for the Martyr's Memorial 'A' Division League and Province League. 

ANFA President Karma Tshering Sherpa and Bagmati Province Sports Development Council Member Secretary Surya Lal Bhandari signed the agreement in Hetauda on Friday. 

As per the agreement, the council will provide Rs 50,000 to the winning team of all 91 'A' division matches totalling Rs 4.55 million. The money will be divided equally into two teams in case of a draw.

The rising player of the tournament will also receive Rs 100,000 from the province government.

The council has also agreed to allocate Rs 5 million for the Province League to be taken part by district champions.
