Nepal lose 2-0 to Jordan

Nepal produced a resilient first half display but were downed by late goals in 2-0 defeat to Joran in their opening match of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Kuwait on Wednesday.

After a goalless first half, Aliyad Olwan put Jordan ahead in the 69th minute before Hamza Ali Aldaradreh added another through a penalty in the 82nd minute to complete the victory.

Debutant goalkeeper Dip Karki saved a penalty in the first half as Nepal were holed into their own half in the first 45 minutes. Gautam Shrestha had brought down Mohammad Faisal Zraiq in the penalty aread and the resulting penalty by Mousa Mohammad Suleiman was saved by Karki.

Nepal will now play their second match against hosts Kuwait on June 11.

40 players called up for closed camp of Asian Games

National Sports Council has called up 40 players for the closed camp training of women's football in Asian Games.

The closed camp will begin from June 7.

Jhapa Football Club clinch C Division title

Jhapa Football Club won the title of Martyr's Memorial 'C' Division League 2022 defeating Swoyambhu Club 4-2 at ANFA Complex in Satdobato.

Bishal Khawas scored twice and Manish Limbu and Pujan Rai scored one each in Jhapa's win. Khawas scored the first in the third minute before adding his second in the 39th. After Limbu scored Jhapa's third in 48th, Roshan Chhetri pulled one back for Swoyambhu in the 51st.

Four minutes after Swoyambu's first goal, Rai scored Jhapa's fourth. Palsang Lama made it 4-2 for Swoyambhu in the 67th minute.

Jhapa won a cash prize of Rs 1 million with the title. Runner-up Planning Boys United took Rs 700,000 and RC32 Football Academy won Rs 400,000 for finishing third.

Chief guest Member Secretary of National Sports Council Tanka Lal Ghising distributed the prize to the winners and runner-up.

Jhapa's Paras Karki won the Player of the Tournament and won Rs 50,000. Mahabir Club received the Fair Play award and won Rs 50,000.

With 14 goals each, the Golden Boot was shared between Planning Boys United's Fagu Ram Tharu and Sanepa Club's Khem Raj Tamang. They also shared Rs 35,000 prize money between them.

Planning Boys Lokesh Chaudhary won Keeper of the Tournament and won Rs 35,000.

Planning Boys United promoted to B division

Planning Boys United have been promoted to the B division after defeating relegated Oasis Club 5-0 in the Martyr's Memorial 'C' Division League 2022 on Friday. 

RC32 Football Academy, also in contention for the promotion, could only manage a goalless draw against Sports Academy Sangha at Dasharath Stadium.

RC32 needed a win and hope Planning Boys drop points in their final game to secure promotion.

Fagu Ram Tharu scored a hat-trick and Arjun Kumar Rana and Om Prakash Chaudhary scored another in Planning Boys win. 

Tharu scored in the third, eighth and 16th minute of the game. Rana scored in the 43rd minute and Chaudhary added the fifth in the 82nd. 

Planning won nine matches and drew four matches in the league. They are the only team not to lose any match in the league.
