Police follow Sankata in quarter-finals

June 5, 2017 - Nepal Police Club advanced to the quarter-finals as the winners of Group ‘B’ following their 2-1 win over CMG Sankata Club in the Lalit Memorial U-18 Championship being held at the ANFA Complex on Monday.

Police topped the table with seven points from three matches, while Sankata, who had already booked their berth in the last round itself, trailed them with six points from as many matches.  The last match of the group will see eliminated teams Morang take on Brigade Boys Club.

Rejin Subba gave Police a 10th minute lead and Rewash Maskey made it 2-0 in the 29th minute. Dipesh Ale Magar pulled one back for Sankata in the second minute of first half stoppage time.

In the other match of the day, Royal Treasurer Jawalakhel established themselves as the top contender from Group 'C' to make it the last eight after routing Jagadamba Lumbini 4-0.

Sushant Chaudhary scored a treble in the win after Amit Bhomjan Lama had opened the scoring.

Bhomjan scored in the 14th minute to build the tempo that lead Chaudhary to score in the 26th, 75th and 90+4 minutes.

With Jawalakhel’s win, the race for the quarter-finals from Group ‘C’ is wide open for all three teams except for New Road.

The last fixture of the group between New Road and Himalayan will decide which teams will move through.

Jawalakhel and Lumbini both have six points each, while Himalayan Sherpa, who have a match in hand, have three points.  

The goal difference between the three teams looks like this:  Jawalakhel (10-4), Lumbini (4-4) and Himalayan Sherpa (4-5).
