Coach Koji cuts down squad to 27

Mar 10, 2017 - The Nepal National Football Team preparing for the first leg of AFC Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers against the Philippines has been reduced to 27 players.

After selecting 36 players in a preliminary list, the squad has been pruned down to 27 to take part in the closed camp. Head Coach Gyotoku Koji decided to trim the shortlist down to twenty-seven players as the team moves closer for its first match in the AFC Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers.

The squad would be reporting to the Camp in Satdobato from March 13 onwards. A preliminary list of 36 players was earlier announced and after training for about four weeks, now it has been cut down by nine players. 

Forward Nawayug Shrestha, who is struggling with leg injury has not been included in the squad. Newcomers Bishow Adhikari, Bimal Panday, Yubraj Khadka and Ravishankar Paswan have all missed out while Bimal Basnet has been included in the list. Hemanta Thapa Magar, Sunil Bal, Dipak Gurung and Dinesh Rajbanshi will not be reporting to the camp on Monday.

The first match of the AFC Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers is scheduled to be held at Rizal Memorial Stadium, Manila, Philippines on the 28th of March.
